ARAB WOMEN JOURNALISTS

CONFERENCE COMMUNIQUÉ

The Arab Women's Media Centre (AWMC) held its Third conference in Amman – Jordan, at 26th  to 28th June 2004, under HRH patronage of Princess Bassma Bint Tala, with the participation of media practitioners and analysts from Jordan and  Arab states + Arab Women Journalists living in UK, USA, — Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Oman, Syria, Kuwait, Tunisia, Algeria, UAE and Yemen, Palestine,  and the USA, also UK.

Jordan was well represented through the effective participation of 40 women working in various media agencies in the kingdom.

All participants conveyed their appreciation to HRH Princess Bassma for her patronage and to governmental and non-governmental organisations in Jordan for their valuable support which contributed to making the conference a success.

Participants applauded the AWMC's initiative in convening a regional conference, devising the programme and bringing together a distinguished gathering of media experts from such a large number of Arab states.

During the course of three working days, participants discussed working papers and country reports based on  major objectives that is to high light and underline codes of Modern Arab Media Strategy
 

Recommendations

In the evening session two committees were elected one for coming out of recommendations and with brief and applicable decisions. the second committee headed by Nada Al-Mohatadi (ANN) is an updating committee includes the following members:

- Amna sola-Tunisia.

- Berlint Qabeel-Egypt.

- Rahma Hujera- Yeman.

- Nada Ayoub- Lebanon.

- Dr. Esmat Mosawi- Kingdom of Bahrain.

Recommendations of the Third Arab Women Media Conference

1- Calling for the president of Arab media ministers council to involve Arab media women in their regular meetings to find a space for them in decision making.

2- Construction of  new media centers similar to the AWMC all over the Arab countries that participated in the conference and to ensure holding next conferences in these countries.

3- Construction of an Arabic media library that collects the releases and publications of Arab media women from all different fields of media in order to present their production on the side running of the conference.

4- Declaring the 12 of March as a day for the Arab Media Women all over the Arab countries which was initiated by AWMC.

5- Training courses for Arab media women especially Iraqi and Saudi women according to each country's need.

6- Working to find pressure forces to raise the payment for Arab media women in countries where there is discrimination between women and men.

7- The committee of formulation must follow up the work of updating committee monthly in coordination with AWMC.

8- To consider the Media ethics codes recommended by participants as an Arabic ethics codes  in which Arab Media Women become committed to in their countries.

9- working to enhance the Arabic-Arabic dialogue between  Arab Media Women and  governmental and non-governmental organizations and the international organizations in order to approach the Arab media women to the position of decision making.

10- construction of an Arab Media network through the internet to guarantee continuous communication between Arab media women in order enhance cooperation between them and for counseling in related with the most critical issues.

Called on the AWMC to turn the conference into an annual event, wherever the capacity and willingness exists to host and fund the meeting
