Complaining Letter addressed to HE. MR. Clegg / Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

launched by Our media watch member in UK

By Iqbal Tamimi

Dear MR. Clegg / Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Israeli naval forces this morning stormed a peaceful flotilla of boats delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza , and killed 20 of the unarmed civilians on board. Dozens more have been injured. Forty British nationals were on the flotilla. None of them have yet been accounted for, including two Bristolians.

Will the British government continue to maintain its complicit silence over the attack, or will it finally speak out and condemn Israel 's piracy and murder on international waters?
You had the opportunity to defend British citizens sailing with the flotilla, and demand safe passage for them and the vital aid they were carrying, but you chose not to do so.
You now have the opportunity to stand up for international law, and to lead the international community in condemning Israel 's actions and holding them to account.

I call on you to take this opportunity. Your political and moral obligations lie with those who seek to peacefully deliver aid, not with a country which repeatedly violates international law.

Yours sincerely

IFJ Calls for Immediate Release of Journalists Detained by Israeli Military

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today called upon the Israeli authorities to release without delay all journalists and media staff who were detained on board the Gaza bound aid convoy on Monday morning. Up to a hundred journalists are believed to be among the passengers currently being held by IDF.

"The Israeli authorities must not play cat and mouse with professional journalists who are doing their job, not just for the company they serve but in the service of a worldwide audience," said Aidan White, IFJ General Secretary.
The Israeli authorities have given reassurances that they will treat all professional journalists the same way as politicians who accompanied the flotilla and seek their early release and deportation.

Reports state that up to ten people were killed and many more injured during clashes between the military and passengers when the flotilla was boarded by IDF [the Israeli Defence Forces] in the early hours of Monday morning May 31-2010.
" We are grateful for the tremendous efforts being made by leaders of the National Federation of Israeli Journalists to defend the rights of working professionals who have been caught up in this series of tragic events," added White. " We will continue to work with our Israeli affiliate and others who have expressed concern about the detention of their journalists and media staff."

Valentine's Day Arrived in Gaza Earlier This Year

Gaza women collecting valentine flowers from their gardens

By Iqbal Tamimi

Sure it was red all over Gaza this year, and earlier than any other country in the world, blood red, not rose red.

The Independent published an article today entitled Israel allows Valentine carnations out of Gaza. The Independent reporter described Israel’s allowing 25,000 carnations to cross the border in the first exports permitted from blockaded Gaza in a year as a gesture. Is this funny or what? Usually the expression gesture holds meanings of good will and kind intentions or so I thought, since gestures usually do not come after killing the people and bulldozing their homes to the ground as well as creating orphans and widows.

Good old Israel allowed 25,000 carnations from Gaza to cross the border so that the lovers in Israel and Europe will have a day to remember, but kept the medicine and children’s food under siege for 19 months. What a gesture… Oh I have forgotten that Palestinian children are not worthy of mercy or consideration, unlike the sensitive Europeans who should celebrate Valentine’s Day in style. I bet those carnations are the most expensive in the whole wide world since they grew in Palestine and were irrigated with blood. But thank God the Independent reporter assured us that Major Peter Lerner, of the military's civil co-ordination office, said Israel had agreed to relax the blockade for the carnations at the request of the Dutch government. I wonder how come no government in the west succeeded in its requests of Israel to relax the blockade for children’s food and medicine and how come only Valentine’s Day flowers had this privilege.

One more question comes in mind, how come the children of Gaza were harvested by white phosphorus bombs while the carnations of St Valentine remained untouched…the irony that the people who are mourning their loved ones, are the ones who are growing the roses and carnations that will be enjoyed by the civilized part of the world, civilized to the point of creating weapons and watching the children of those who plant those flowers die of starvation and be burned by the bombs.

To all the Palestinian women who have lost their loved ones, may you rise up like olive trees and keep your roots in the soil… you deserve all the roses in the world.

SONG FOR GAZA

Michael Heart sings

"We will not go down"

Message from Michael

Dear friends,

I have been overwhelmed by the warmth and the friendship you have all given me in response to my song for Gaza, "We Will Not Go Down". I am doing my best to go through your numerous messages, emails and comments, and ask you to kindly bear with me until I am able to do so. Please forgive me if I am not able to respond to each and everyone of you; but please also know that I really appreciate your messages.

My original intention to donate proceeds from the sale of the MP3 to charity has been complicated by technical matters; therefore, I have decided to make the song available free of charge. I would like to request that after downloading the song from this page, you kindly donate directly to a charity or an organization dedicated to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. Worthy of note is UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East), which has been helping Palestinian refugees since their dispossession in 1949. Please click here to donate through them: http://www.un.org/unrwa/

Thank you for your continued encouragement of my work as a musician, for your purchases of my CD (available here on iTunes), and for spreading the song, the video and the message as you have been doing. I am grateful for every demonstration of support I have received from you, and for every thought and prayer that has gone to the people of Gaza.

Sincerely,

Michael Heart

Dear Fourth Estate and Humanitarians

I've just watched CNN for the last two hours and heard that the UN is in emergency session and the vote to ask for an immediate cease-fire is 14-1.  Yes, the "1" is the US.  I can hardly believe it. I also can't listen to the doublespeak where the Israeli spokesperson is talking about attacking Hamas when the facts on the ground are that over 50 + Palestinian children are dead and there are no Israeli children dead.  I've listened to the talking heads for the last 8 years and I voted for CHANGE.  Please help me spread the word about what is happening to the children right now in Palestine.  Dr. Naba Hamid has sent me documentation and pictures. The time for action is now before more killing of innocent children.  Collateral damage of 50 + children is unacceptable.  How can Israel get on US television and actually believe that our citizens are so stupid as to not realize that the Israel Gov't thinks the threat to their children is more important than the actual deaths of the Palestinian children! By their actions not their words,  they are proving it by dropping bombs from the sky for 8 solid days, 24/7, and have now attacked Gaza from 3 land areas and their Navy is attacking  from the sea.  We just had an election that repudiated that type of settling human disputes.  If Barack Obama can't find his voice before Jan 20th then the American people will use their voices to call for a cease-fire.
I am giving you the e-mail addresses of the Israeli gov't.  Make your voice heard directly, we don't need politicians, we are the US government-the part that says, "government of the people."

FREE GAZA – FREE PALESTINE
JUDAISM YES ! ZIONISM NO !

FWD BY: Suraya Bibi Khan - South Africa

The following speech delivered by Anti Zionist Orthodox Jews at the “Emergency Protest to Stop the Massacre in Gaza” rally, Rockefeller Center, New York City, December 27, 2008, 2.00 PM

May our words be pleasing to the Creator and cause His Great Name to be sanctified.
Assalaam Aleikhum:
The world stands aghast as the atrocities being committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza, becomes known in ever greater and shocking detail.
Mere words are insufficient to express the pain that all mankind feels at the plight of the Gaza and Palestinian people.
For over one hundred years, they have been subject to a carefully conceived plan, to drive them from their homes and their land.
Throughout their history, the Zionists have resorted to intimidation, war, ethnic cleansing and state-sponsored terrorism to achieve their goals.
This is, has been and continues to be, the criminal agenda of the Zionist movement. But among this movement’s greatest crimes, is that it has claimed to carry out these nefarious actions in the name of holiness, in the name of the Almighty, in the name of Judaism and the Jewish people !!
This is a wicked and monstrous lie !!
It is a desecration of our religion !!
Judaism forbids and rejects Zionism and the existence of the State of “Israel”. We have been expressly commanded by the Almighty that we are forbidden to have our own sovereignty in this heavenly decreed exile, we are also forbidden to rebel against any nation. Torah believing Jews, under the leadership of the most esteemed rabbis of the 20th century have always opposed and fought against Zionism and ultimately the State of “Israel”.
Unfortunately in recent years the Zionists have succeed in seducing and co-opting members of the religious community and some rabbis into support of not allowing the return of the rightful owners, the Palestinian people, to their land, by fear mongering, by appealing to their worst fears, that there is a religious conflict and that the Arabs always have had an ingrained hate for the Jews. Especially, they claim, that because of the many years of the existence of the State of “Israel”, if the Palestinians where to return to their land, they would massacre the Jews, may the Almighty protect us.
Anyone familiar with the ploys and techniques of the Zionist State is aware of this fact.
Before the advent of Zionism, Muslims and Christian, Arabs and Jews, lived peacefully together in the Holy Land, as in all the Muslim lands, - Ask your grandparents! - They remember those peaceful days! And in fact it is here the opportune time to thank all the Muslim countries for their extraordinary friendship, hospitality and safe haven that they have provided to the Jewish people throughout the ages!
The Zionists rely on the Bible, the Torah, for their imaginary right to ethnically cleanse the Palestinian people and to subjugate them. This is a pathetic joke! The Zionists have always been heretics and rejected all the fundamental tenets of our faith, and yet they have the nerve, the arrogance, the audacity, the chutzpa, to pretend to base their behavior on our holy Torah.
We know what our holy writings and our great rabbis have taught us - that we are forbidden to subjugate or oppress anyone or to desecrate the holiness of the Holy Land with paths of violence, ethnic cleansing, discrimination and military power. Our religion teaches justice. It teaches peace. It teaches compassion. In fact, the greatest and ultimate hope and prayer of the Jewish people is, that when the Messiah comes that then “Nation shall no longer lift up sword against nation, and they will make war no more.” All nations will serve God together in peace.
To the governments of the world, it is not through your support of the Zionist regime – the State of “Israel”, that the Jewish people are being helped! On the contrary, this tragic historical mistake has led to the killing of Arabs and Jews alike. The governments of the great powers, by supporting the State of “Israel” are not only harming the Palestinian people but they are also unwittingly contributing to the growth of hostility towards Jews worldwide!
To our Jewish brethren, we beg! Do not be intimidated by ruthless Zionist bullying and violence!! - Proclaim loudly and clearly your outrage, pain and sympathy for the people of Gaza and that those who show contempt for the Torah, the teachings of our rabbis, and disregard the ethical and moral basics of our faith, have no right to speak on behalf of the Jewish People or Judaism!
We must tell the world that self rule, sovereignty and ALL the rights of the Palestinian people, must be restored throughout historic Palestine! This is a requirement of Jewish ethics and values! Jewish justice demands the return of the Palestinian refugees to their homes, towns, villages and cities throughout Palestine! Tell the world, loudly and clearly, that you support Palestinian statehood over the ENTIRE Holy Land -- not despite your Jewish identity, but because of it.
To our Islamic brethren – let us speak up for the people of Gaza and please do not judge the Jewish faith or its people, on the basis of this passing lunacy of Zionism. The Jews have always been your friends and cousins. Do not allow your understandable anger to be directed at those who are innocent of wrongdoing, regardless of whether they reside in Occupied Palestine, Europe, or anywhere around the globe.
Together, people of all nations, may we be worthy, with God’s help, speedily and peacefully, without further suffering and bloodshed of anyone, be it Arab or Jew, to witness the peaceful end of the Zionist occupation over every inch of Palestine.
And may we yet merit to see, in the very near future, the revelation of the One God, over the entire world, with all mankind in His servitude, in joyous brotherhood. AMEN
Let’s Proclaim Together:
FREE GAZA – FREE PALESTINE
JUDAISM YES ! ZIONISM NO !

“Dear Senators Obama and McCain,

We were disturbed by your remarks at the AIPAC conference. We implore you to respect internationally recognized Palestinian claims to East Jerusalem, to hold not just Hamas but also Israel accountable for its use of weapons against civilian populations, and to supporting including Hamas in negotiations. We believe that both Palestinians and Israelis deserve to live in safe and secure societies. Please commit to working for justice and peace for both Israelis and Palestinians”.

ALL PALESTINIANS REMEMBERING

Late Rachel Corrie

Rachel Corrie Joins Palestinians in Longing for Justice

please click here to remember Rachel

The follwoing is an article written by profesor Sarah Shield upon the
Isreali incursion to Jenin camp

Dad, we have become the oppressors. One rabbinic student told me years ago when I lived in Israel that this was the meaning behind the warning to remember that we were slaves in the land of Egypt. We were warned to remember, because sometimes slaves want to become masters.
We are the oppressors, and we are also the victims. Jews are being killed, and at the same time, the moral imperative that you taught me was part of being Jewish seems to be vanishing. I believe that Jews are being used by an American administration to accomplish its own ends, ends that have nothing to do with the ideals of Jews. We need to shout aloud that 80% of the billions that the US gives Israel in aid must be spent on weapons, and that more than half of those weapons are built in Texas. And Jews are being used by an Israeli government that has no interest except territorial expansion. Sharon is the ideological heir to Jabotinsky. Land for peace was never in that ideology. War makes conquest possible, and all the people of Israel and Palestine are being drawn, tragically and together, into that war.
We must act, and we must act immediately. Jews are being used to legitimize the slaughter of Palestinians.
Please, Dad, tell me how to be like you taught me to be. How do I stop being complicit?

I love you.
Sarah

TWO WELL KNOWN PALESTINIANS REMEMBERING

Late Rachel Corrie

Rachel Corrie Joins Palestinians in Longing for Justice

by Hanan Ashrawi

Excerpt: "When Israeli troops ruthlessly murdered Rachel Corrie, she became the victim of both Israel’s brutal occupation and the full force of its “spin machine.” It is a common trait of the cowardly to malign the victim, in this case, accusing her of having brought about the deserved cruelty of the crime. A ruthless campaign was pursued to distort the truth, despite irrefutable evidence, resulting in the total dehumanization of the victim and the elimination of her most basic rights and attributes as well as claims to protection.
"Rachel Corrie, a 23-year-old student from Olympia, Washington, was murdered while attempting to prevent an Israeli army bulldozer from demolishing a Palestinian home near the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

The Meaning of Rachel Corrie ...Of Dignity and Solidarity

by Edward Said

"June 23, 2003 -- In early May, I was in Seattle lecturing for a few days.
While there, I had dinner one night with Rachel Corrie's parents and sister, who were still reeling from the shock of their daughter's murder on March 16 in Gaza by an Israeli bulldozer. Mr. Corrie told me that he had himself driven bulldozers, although the one that killed his daughter deliberately because she was trying valiantly to protect a Palestinian home in Rafah from demolition was a 60 ton behemoth especially designed by Caterpillar for house demolitions, a far bigger machine than anything he had ever seen or driven.

Eight-meter wall bisecting the Palestinian town of Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem, climbers proved concrete won't make peace, it is what the history told us

Dr. Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi,
himself head of the Gandhi Institute for Non-Violence

He was speaking in the shadow of the eight-metre wall bisecting the Palestinian town of Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem. There were quite a few mainstream
adherents - people who, without the historical and ideological associations of the name Gandhi, may have hesitated to take an action so radical in today's Israeli
context as going to a Palestinian city and participating in a joint demonstration with its inhabitants.
For the Palestinian Coalition for Peace and Liberty, which had invited Gandhi,
his tour of the country is intended to launch a widespread campaign aimed at showing the Palestinian public the advantages of waging the struggle against the occupation by non-violent methods. Originally, among Palestinians non-
violence was often confused with passivity and non-resistance. But the success of this year's struggle by village communities mobilizing against construction of the Wall on their land has made the idea more concrete, and the virtual cessation of suicide bombings in the past half-year may among other things indicate
willingness of Palestinian society to consider a fundamental change of tactics.
